4 Smart Time Blocking Methods for Staying Focused
How to find your path to productivity amid life’s distractions
It’s hard to stay focused today when everything and everyone is trying frantically to get our attention. But when you have a project that you need to complete, sometimes you must shut out the distractions and just get to work.
Honestly, though, I might scream if one more person tells me all my problems will be solved with time blocking.
Block the time on the calendar. Treat it like you would any other appointment.
Sure.
Do you know how many times I’ve made a two-hour “deep work” block on my calendar and then completely ignored it?
Every single time.
Because when I look at my calendar, the words may say “deep work”, but all I see is, “THE NEXT TWO HOURS OF YOUR LIFE ARE GOING TO REALLY SUCK”.
It’s no wonder I would decide to go do something less painful, like clean my oven.
But I kept trying, until finally I discovered that if I made my time blocks more specific in both length and description, I was more likely to do them. If I see “create the slide deck for next week’s presentation” instead of “deep work”, I know exactly what needs to be done.
