“Congratulations! You have a new streak record of 108 weeks!”

Though I wasn’t surprised by the numbers, I didn’t know that my Kindle was tracking how often I read. I knew that I read over 100 books last year, with a huge focus on the self-improvement/productivity niche. There are some good ones out there, in fact, here’s a story I did about the twenty-five best nonfiction books I read in 2021:

But something strange had happened to me last week. I picked up yet another “Improve your life! Let me show you how!” book that had been on my to-be-read list for a while. The book itself doesn’t matter, what mattered was that I was bored reading it. There was no new information for me to gain from it, I’d heard it all before.

Couple that with my newly revealed 108-week reading streak, and I began to wonder if there was a hidden lesson for me — have I been procrastinating on the doing phase by pretending to myself that I was still in the learning phase?
